Top cities for house sitting in The Netherlands

Are you going away but have a pet that prefers to stay in their own environment? Or perhaps you have a range of different animals and it’s not practical for you to organise for them to stay in different places? Then you might want to consider finding a Pawshake house sitter to come and stay at your Leens home while you are away.

House sitting is a convenient and affordable option when you have multiple pets and also want your house to be securely looked after while you are away. Many of our pet sitters have very reasonable house sitting rates because they enjoy staying and exploring different local neighbourhoods like Leens.

At Pawshake, we understand that trusting your home to a stranger can be a little daunting. So we’ve done all the hard work to ensure that your Pawshake house sitter is trustworthy and reliable. All our pet sitter profiles are checked individually by our dedicated trust and safety team and some house sitters also have their own police checks which they can share with you.

The best thing about engaging a Pawshake verified house sitter is that you can relax knowing that on top of being covered by The Pawshake Guarantee which includes veterinary coverage, so your pets are being cared for in a familiar environment and your Leens home is also being looked after as well.

In addition to looking after your pets, most of our house sitters will happily help you by collecting your mail, taking out the bins, and watering your plants. Just make sure you discuss all your requirements with your chosen house sitter prior to booking.

Hello, my name is Zoe and I live together with my pug, Thytan. In 2015, I moved to Groningen to attend the university and brought Thytan with me. Next to English, I also speak Dutch, Spanish and my native language, Papiamento. The reason I've decided to join Pawshake is that, next to having to look for sitters sometimes myself, I very much enjoy meeting and spending time with other pets.My experience with pets comes from having owning dogs since I was 14. While I've never had cats myself, I have friends who do and find them to be lovely. Because of Pawshake, I've also had the opportunity to look after cats and enjoyed the time I spent with them. Additionally, I am very open to looking after other pets, if clear instructions are given.Since moving to Groningen, I've lived alone with Thytan and from that, I've learned how to be dedicated, responsible and patient. I am very communicative and flexible. I aim to deliver to what's expected, if not more, at all times.Because I recently moved, I can no longer offer the home boarding or daycare service. However, I look forward to taking them on walks or visiting your house. However I can be helpful and of service, kindly send me a message and we can discuss the possibilities.

Hi! My name is Peter, I absolutely love big giant dogs, I love just about any dog. If you have a large or medium size dog that you are worried about leaving at home alone, or with a sitter that is inexperienced with big dogs, i can help you out!
My family has so far had three beautiful dogs, a Bernese mountain dog, and two Bernese poodle mixes. The Bernese poodles are extremely energetic, if you have an energentic dog, like an aussie or a collie, I have lots of experience in getting their energy out and running them around! We have trained up all of our dogs from 1-2 months old, so if you have a puppy, i can help!
I have plenty of experience walking, keeping to food and medication schedules, and keeping your dog exercised! I'm hood for taking hour long plus walks if thats what your pet needs. I can follow complex medication schedules, as long as they are detailed / well explained. Trust that I will love your dog to the fullest extent!
If you have a Bernese mountain dog, then please contact me, I am your man they are my absolute favorite!

I would prefer any pets to be vaccinated.

I have always believed that pets are not just animals, but beloved family members who deserve the same love, care, and attention as we give to each other. My journey as a pet caretaker began when I welcomed a little toy poodle into my home at just two months old. From feeding and training to regular walks and playtime, I dedicated myself to making sure he grew up healthy and happy. Today, five years later, he is a lively, joyful companion who has taught me so much about patience, responsibility, and unconditional love.

In addition to caring for dogs, I also have hands-on experience with cats. A couple of years ago, I rescued a sick stray kitten I found while out with friends. He was suffering from stomach issues, and I immediately took him to the vet and followed all the medical instructions carefully. With consistent care, he fully recovered and has now grown into a strong and healthy two-year-old cat.

Because of these experiences, I feel confident in my ability to provide attentive, loving, and reliable care to pets of all kinds. Whether it’s walking, feeding, playing, or simply keeping them company, I treat every pet as if they were my own. Pet parents can trust that their furry loved ones will be safe, happy, and well cared for with me.

I am a passionate dog lover with over eight years of experience caring for my own dog. Spending time with animals has always been one of the most meaningful parts of my daily life. I go on regular walks, enjoy running with dogs, and truly love getting fresh air outdoors with them. Being active and attentive helps me understand each dog’s personality, energy level, and needs, and I always make sure they feel safe, comfortable, and loved.

My motivation to be a pet sitter comes from wanting to give other pets the same affection and care my own dog receives. I know how important it is for owners to feel confident that their pets are in good hands, especially when they are away. I am responsible, patient, and very detail-oriented.

I have previous experience taking care of not only my own dog but also pets of friends and neighbors. I am comfortable with both energetic dogs and gentle, quiet ones. And yes, for safety reasons, I only accept vaccinated pets into my home.

I look forward to meeting new pets and giving them a happy, relaxed, and enjoyable stay.

Hello! I am currently a PhD candidate at the University of Groningen. Beyond my demanding academic work, spending time with animals is my greatest source of joy. I love outdoor travel, and the special bond I often form with animals I encounter along the way has become one of my most treasured experiences. I am deeply drawn to the pure kindness that animals embody—sometimes I even feel that there exists a magical kind of communication between us, beyond words.
This deep love and sense of connection with the animal world is what motivates me to become a pet sitter. I firmly believe that every pet deserves gentle and loving care. My motivation is simple: to provide attentive and reliable care so that you can feel completely at ease when you are busy or away, while ensuring your beloved pet enjoys a happy and fulfilling time. I have hands-on experience caring for friends’ and neighbors’ pets—including both cats and dogs—and I am familiar with their daily needs and behavioral cues.
I promise to offer your pet a safe, clean, and loving temporary home. In fact, my own place is like an animal-friendly stopover—sometimes even hedgehogs from the neighborhood wander in at ease. I will carefully follow your instructions for feeding, walking, and playtime. I truly look forward to meeting you and your beloved companion!

With over 15 years of experience growing up alongside cats and dogs, caring for pets has become second nature to me. Since moving to the Netherlands for 2 years, I’ve deeply missed their companionship, which inspired me to start pet sitting! While my rental agreement doesn't allow me to host pets at my home, I love providing reliable care right in yours.
I have hands-on experience cat-sitting for friends during Easter and early July of this year. I handled feeding, litter cleaning, and playtime, earning glowing feedback.
I offer Drop-in Visits (30-45 mins) and Dog Walking (30-60 mins) for cats and dogs. Each visit includes fresh food/water, cleanups, lots of play, and daily photo updates. I am respectful, highly organized, and flexible. I'd love to give your furry family members the warm, dedicated care they deserve while you are away! Looking forward to hearing from you!

Hallo dierenbaasjes,
Groetjes Varja

ENGLISH:
Hello pet owners,

I’m a huge animal lover and about a year ago I adopted a sweet little dog from Romania. We live near the Noorderplantsoen in Groningen and love spending time together. Dasja and I really enjoy having other dogs stay with us from time to time, and we’ve already looked after several dogs successfully.

The only thing I ask is that the dogs I walk or look after are not reactive towards other dogs (for example barking, growling, or lunging), as Dasja may copy that behaviour. Before agreeing to dog sit, I always like to arrange a short walk together followed by a visit to my home to make sure our dogs get along well.

I have volunteered at dog shelters in Madrid and Indonesia, where I walked dogs and worked with traumatized dogs to help them build trust in people. Dasja herself was very fearful during her first months with me and is still a little cautious around strangers, so I have experience with shy and anxious dogs. I currently volunteer for a private rescue organization that rehomes stray dogs from Romania.

Services I offer:

Dog walking – Approximately one hour, together with Dasja, in your local area.

Playtime and basic training – I can teach basic commands such as sit, stay close (heel), paw, high five, down, and even fun scent games where your dog searches for hidden toys.

Dog sitting – Whether for the day or for several days. During their stay, your dog will receive 3–4 walks a day, plenty of playtime, fresh food and water, and lots of companionship.

Medication – I have experience giving tablets by hiding them in treats. I don’t have experience administering other types of medication.

I also have experience caring for cats and therefore offer home visits to feed, care for, and spend time with your cat. Unfortunately, I can’t have cats stay in my home because my dog doesn’t get along well with cats.

If my profile sounds like a good match for you and your pet, I’d love to hear from you!
