About Laurie

Hi, I'm Laurie, and our family would love to welcome your small furry friend (or friends) to stay with us in Amsterdam.

My husband Michael and I are Americans who've been living in Amsterdam since 2013 and 2011, respectively. Prior to that I was living in Paris for 6 years. Michael works in tech management (now in between roles) and I own a small business in the health and fitness industry.

We both adore dogs and have been dog owners since the early 2000s of both big and small dogs (and cat owners long before that). We have solid experience loving and caring for pets -- including puppies, senior dogs, a blind dog, an epileptic dog, and rehomed adult dogs.

We had 3 dogs for some time and are now down to two. While we ponder expanding our fur family, we've got plenty of space for furry visitors and lots of love and attention to give. They'd be treated as our own and we hope to become their new favorite Amsterdam auntie and uncle.

A home away from home, your precious pup would stay in our spacious, tidy, smoke-free, top-floor maisonette (110m2), located along a grassy canal and within a short walk to Erasmus and Rembrandt parks for urban nature walks.

At our place, your dog can feel free to play, roam and relax wherever they feel comfortable, such as in our doggy window seat to watch the world go by. There's plenty of space for your fur baby to claim a cozy spot of their own, including an air-conditioned room to cool down on hot days or nights -- our sofas, chairs, and beds are a fine spot too :-)

Our two fur babies, Augie and Peanut (5 and 8), get along well with other dogs, have lived with other small pups young and old, and are pretty chill except when the doorbell rings (the only time Augie barks). They'd love an extra furry friend for cuddling and play.

Most likely, your dog will quickly find our toy box of wonders for daily playtime, a game of fetch or a tug of war game with Augie and Peanut. We also love a good game of "ring the bell", which the pups love too!

In the evenings your pup would join us for cuddly, cozy evenings on the sofa or terrace lounge (if we're not for a terrace dining adventure with the pups).

On our rooftop terrace your pup will have a convenient faux-grass patch for first-morning wees or easy daytime bladder relief. On drier, warmer days we keep the terrace and balcony doors open for the pups to come and go, for catching some daytime sun on the balcony seat or our roof-top garden lounge, or just sniffing around or playing as they please.

After breakfast, we head out daily for a longer 45-minute to 1-hour long stroll along the grassy canal, then another 30 to 45-minute one after dinner. We often throw in a shorter midday or pre-bedtime walk if needed and we typically go for longer excursions to the nearby parks or for a little cafe break a few times a week.

It all adds up to around 1.25 to 2 hours of walks 2 to 4 times day, which we adjust depending on the weather, the day, and your dog's preferences and needs. Of course, we like to ensure all dogs get at least one post-meal poo before we come back inside from our walks.

When it comes to feeding time, we're okay with special-needs, raw food diets, or fussy eaters (we have some of our own) and can administer oral medications if needed (we've had senior dogs with special medical needs).

As dog owners who travel, we understand what it's like to want peace of mind while you're away, knowing that your dogs are comfortable, happy, and receiving lots of love and great care. We'll stay in touch and keep you posted with daily updates and photos of your pups fabulous holiday adventures.

We only accept one dog (or a 2-dog family) at a time so your pup or pups will get lots of attention and cuddles throughout the day. We both work from home with flexible/part-time schedules and take frequent breaks to hang and check in with our babies -- though the dogs are normally snuggled up next to us while we work.

Vaccinated dogs treated for worms, ticks and fleas is our preference (ours are treated too).
