Hoi, my name is Alaina. I'm a young professional in Amsterdam Oost who adores dogs of all shapes and sizes. My own family's dog is back in Colorado, so I'm always on the lookout for new canine friends - dogs add so much joy to life! Previously, I've pet-sat through Borrow My Doggy in the UK. I worked with a Staffordshire terrier named Lexi, a golden doodle named Sam, and a very chill retired racing greyhound named Jazz. I have some free time outside of my job as a grant writer and researcher. Because interacting with dogs and exercising are two of my favorite things, I'm excited to use some of this free time to take dedicated care of your dog during a walk, an in-house petsitting session, or even doggie daycare in my ground-level apartment, which has its own fully enclosed backyard (30m2).
I grew up around my parents' standard poodle, Benny, whom I got to train as a puppy through obedience classes.
Keeping Benny happy, healthy, and mentally stimulated is one of my favorite things to do when I'm home for a visit.
We regularly go on long hikes and even completed a 3-day backpacking trip to the summit of Pikes Peak in Colorado over the summer (Benny was an absolute star!).
Since I moved to Amsterdam in November, the only dogs I see regularly are brought to the office by my coworkers.
The office dogs each have unique personalities, but I'm still left wishing I could dote on them a bit more when work is done for the day. I'd love to use that energy to make your dog's next walk or petsitting experience engaging and tailored to your pet's personality.
Does your active dog need to burn off some energy? I regularly run half marathons and would love to take your pet out on a run the next time I train.
Is your older dog slowing up a bit and you're simply looking for someone to check in or keep her company while you're out of town? I'd love to keep her comfortable with food, bathroom breaks, water, company, and as many chin/ear scratches as she could ever want while you're away.
Other than being a dog fanatic, I have a background in linguistics. music, and literature.
I've been lucky enough to work in France and the US and recently completed my Master's in the UK at Oxford.
I was drawn to Amsterdam by the chance to learn a new Germanic language and get around in such a freeing, eco-friendly way on my bike.
Those elements, along with finding an incredible job and supportive friends, have persuaded me to stay.
I feel so lucky to be here; all that's missing now is lavishing some attention on happy dogs :)
Alaina was wonderful and very considerate of both our dog's needs (he was tired out but very happy after the weekend!) and our apartment, which was exactly as we'd left it. Thank you!
All great! Recommended :)
I have experience in clicker training, positive reinforcement, and mirror training. I'm well-practiced at administering any medication your pooch might need (my family's dog has occasionally been on pills, ear drops, or eye drops). Following unique feeding routines is familiar to me and I'd be glad to do so upon request.
I'm always happy to share snapshots of your dog while taking him/her on a walk, doing an in-house visit, or petsitting him/her in my apartment. For longer petsitting durations, I'm also glad to let you check in with your pet on a quick video call; being away from your pet can be difficult, so I'll do everything I can to make it easier :)
